sQuizya Pricing
How does it work?
sQuizya pricing has two components, both of which are calculated based on the number of users in the school account. This number of users is the sum of all student users across all year levels, plus all staff users, plus any vacant users.
Annual subscription
This gives every user access to all the features of sQuizya (iQ’s, races, zApp creator, results) and all the free content. The actual cost per user varies from currency to currency as shown below.
AUD 2.00 CAD 2.00 EUR 1.50 GBP 1.00 NZD 2.00 USD 2.00
The annual subscription enables sQuizya to pay for design, development, programming, testing, data storage, data security, data delivery and staff wages. It also allows sQuizya to remain advertisement-free.
zApp Book purchases
zApp Book prices indicate the price to be paid per user and are set by the individual author. Like a hard copy library, a school only pays once for a zApp Book but retains use of the book for as long as the sQuizya subscription is maintained.
There is no further cost unless the school increases its subscription size. In this case there is a charge for ‘Access to Library for New Users’. This fee ensures fairness for authors and is calculated by multiplying the number of new users added by the cost of books previously purchased.
Some sample zApp Book prices are shown below:
Maths Mate Blue – Australia (AUD 2.00 per user, CAD 2.00 per user, …)
Math’s Mate Green – USA (AUD 2.00 per user, CAD 2.00 per user, …)
Maths Mate Mauve – New Zealand (AUD 2.00 per user, CAD 2.00 per …)
Quick Addition (AUD 0.30 per user, CAD 0.30 per user, …)
The money collected from content is split 70-30. 70% goes to the author and 30% is used to encourage other teachers to become authors and create quality content. All of this is critical to the success of the sQuizya content-sharing platform.
Note regarding the release of new editions of a book: If an author releases a new edition, the old edition will remain available to those who have purchased it. If the new edition is desired, it would need to be purchased.
Booklist or Student Levy?
Who owns the zApp Books in your School Library? The school does. When purchasing zApp Books on sQuizya you buy them for the School Library, not just for the current students and not just for one year-level. A teacher can assign any book to any student at any year level. This gives teachers maximum flexibility to meet the needs of their students.
Students might be charged a fee aimed at building the School Library. We recommend a $10 sQuizya levy per year with any leftover funds put towards future content.
Pricing Examples
The following examples will help you calculate the cost of purchasing products on sQuizya and the cost of adding students and staff to a school that has already purchased zApp Books.
Each example uses the same school. The school has 100 students in each year level, there are 30 staff members involved in using sQuizya and a spare 10 user accounts are purchased. The school decided to purchase each of the Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 Maths Mate zApp books at a cost of $2.00 per book per user.
Users = students + staff + spares
ALNU = Access to Library for New Users
Cost per student = cost per student (if staff pay nothing)
Example 1: The school purchases four Maths Mate books (each at $2 per user) for all Year 7 to Year 10 users.

Choosing Enough User Accounts
We recommend that schools make sure that there are always spare user accounts available. This means that new students can be added without any fuss. Also, temporary access to the results of former students can be obtained more easily. If you un-archive a former student all their results will become available again. Once you have recovered what ever you need, you can archive the account once more.
sQuizya Pricing Rationale
The following is our rationale for pricing on sQuizya. Our aim is to make life for the classroom teacher as simple as possible, and this is why we created this structure.
Simplicity for the classroom teacher
When a new student walks into the room they can get to work immediately. No phone calls, no invoices.
Flexibility of content
When a teacher identifies that a student would benefit from transferring to a book at a more appropriate level, this can be done immediately and at no cost.
Flexibility of user accounts
As graduating students exit sQuizya their user accounts are simply archived. These accounts are then free to be reassigned to new students entering the school. New students gain access to everything in the School Library.
Choice
Each school can choose to purchase only those materials that they require. They do not need to fit in to somebody else’s idea of what they need, nor do they need to purchase a ‘package’ that includes unnecessary material. This ties in with the flexible copyright idea developed by sQuizya.
sQuizya: a library, not booklist items
Teachers have access to all the material in their library for use with their students. Because every student can be given access to everything in the School Library, it makes sense to charge a fee based on the number of users (students and teachers) in the school whenever a new book is purchased. Again, by taking out the year level component from the calculation there are no hassles caused by having a larger or smaller number of students in next year’s Year 7 compared with this year’s class.
Growth over time
Charging for books only once allows schools to expand their library year to year. For example, with Maths Mate a school might eventually own every Maths Mate book for use in evaluation, every Skill Builder for use in remediation, and every Quick Maths book to cement concepts. Schools will end up with an incredible arsenal of Mathematics ideas and resources that they will be able to use to engage students across the board.
Value
We wish to make sQuizya affordable for all schools, including those in developing countries. We have therefore deliberately set prices as low as possible. Our dream is to support a platform through which teachers can share their very best lessons and activities with each other, either free of charge or for a small fee.
